    Role Summary

    This position will be responsible for all finance and accounting functions, including the budgeting and settling of events, the monthly, quarterly and annual closing process, as well as preparation of the monthly Outlooks, quarterly Forecasts, and annual Budget for the Forum.

    This position will require excellent written and communication skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles and the Company’s policies and procedures. The Director will be required to adhere to strict reporting deadlines which will require superior supervisory and organizational skills.

    Specific Functions/Activities Summary

    Event Financial Support (30%)


    The Director will prepare labor & cost estimates for each event (EVCs) for use by Bookings department executives to negotiate deals with clients.  Type of events includes sports, concert rentals and/or promotions, family attraction rentals and/or promotions, and special events.


    The Director will be responsible for tracking event costs, conducting settlements with promoters and/or artist representatives, preparing P&L statements, compiling post-concert estimates, and accounting and reporting the event closings, along with reconciliation of general ledger.  The Director will also be responsible for maintaining event files and preparation for audits.


    The Director will develop financial and operational expertise in MSG’s venues, as well as the ability to analyze venue performance as required.  This will include understanding all union agreements, work rules and the applicable rate cards.  The Director will be used as a resource by the Bookers and other Finance and Accounting Staff.


    The Director will represent MSG and prepare Event Settlements (License Settlements or Concert Promotion Settlements) with client (Promoter Accountant and/or Tour Accountant) at time of Concert and Event Settlement, detailing Revenue, deal expenses, incremental charge back expenses, and other related charges or credits due Client, per agreement with MSG Live. Provide a service to clients in a manner that is considered professional, efficient, effective, respectful, and courteous.


    Venue Operational & Financial Support (20%)


    The Director will provide primary financial support to VP Arena Operations - Forum along with their operation staffs to provide them with outlook, forecast, budget, profit and loss, and ad hoc reporting.  Director will design financial models and analyses to provide Operations with relevant data and metrics for department heads to better manage their expenses, as well as analysis of potential capital expenditures. Responsibilities also include tracking and reporting capital expenditures for the Forum as well Capital Appropriation Request (CAR) packages to ensure that Company Policies are being followed. This position will also work closely with 3rd party parking and food & beverage vendors and provide reporting and analysis on a regular basis.


    Additional tasks will include flashes and updating BOCS after every event with actual revenue data. Collaborates with third party vendor to obtain an understanding of monthly expenses, gathers backup for all contractual obligations, commitment schedules, reviews settlements and works with the VP Arena Operations - Forum on these matters.


    Prepares and provides the labor forecast from third party vendor after each event. This position will be the liaison between MSG and their vendors, to ensure all the payments are received on time. Provides union analysis when needed. Report on catering activities in the clubs. Any ad hoc reporting.


    Accounting & Financial Reporting (30%)


    The Director will be responsible for all areas of accounting for the Forum including Venue Operations, Live settlement-accounting and food, beverage & merchandise accounting. Additional responsibilities include preparation of the statement of operations and subsequent analysis of resulting variances versus budget / forecast, responsibility for the fair presentation of the balance sheet, including supporting schedules and analysis, signing off on journal entries for direct reports, and ensuring accruals are adequate.  The Director will work with external and internal auditors as required, and performing ad hoc analysis as required. In addition, the Director will be responsible for submitting to Corporate Reporting all quarterly and year-end supplemental deliverables and working on ad-hoc reporting requests as the public financial statements are being drafted. The Director will supervise and review the work of one Manager.


    This position will also be responsible for review of related third party transactions and utilities to ensure that accruals are accurate.  Review petty cash audits which will include write-ups of violations.  This person must have the ability to work with internal and external auditors.  Prepare city and county related reporting.


    Special Projects (20%)


    The Director shall provide primary analytical support to critical special projects as assigned (e.g., union negotiations, performing rights organization reporting, competitive analysis, etc.).  This will include projects and reporting that cross divisions, requiring the Director to maintain positive working relationships across the company. Design financial models and analyses to provide Operations with relevant data for department heads to better manage their expenses.

    2. Advance analytical, accounting and financial skills are required.
    3. Experience in budgets, forecasts and monthly analysis reporting and monthly closes.
    4. Must have strong advance Excel skills while experience in Workforce Management, Oracle, TM1, Infor or Anaplan applications is a plus.
    5. Bachelor degree in Accounting required MBA or CPA would be a plus but is not required.

    4. The individual in this position must be a self-starter, be organized, have a sense of urgency and a dedicated team player.
    5. 5-10+ years of experience and a Bachelor degree in Accounting required and MBA or CPA a plus.
    6. Strong balance sheet and capital experience is required.


    Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
