    Role Summary

    This leadership role is responsible for the oversight of the operational accounting functions, including the monthly closing process. This role will review all operational financial statements and related account analysis, ensuring that all accounting records are maintained in accordance with GAAP. This role maintains all necessary accounting policies and systems including general ledger, accounts receivable, and fixed assets. It is responsible for Managing the portion of the accounts payable function that is performed at the Company, including review of proper approval and coding for all invoices. The position will maintain SOX compliance, issue internal statements and reports on a timely basis, while meeting all external reporting requirements and deadlines. He/she will provide accounting support to the operational departments and special projects. This position manages a staff of seven including a Senior Manager, one Manager, and one Student Associate (direct reports), as well as one Manager, one Senior Staff Accountant, and two Staff Accountants (indirect reports).

    Specific Functions/Activities Summary

    • Manage monthly closing process, ensuring timely and accurate closing of Oracle General Ledger and its sub ledgers, including, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Fixed Assets. This includes the review and posting of all journal entries.
    • Reviewing all operational financial statements and related account analysis, ensuring that all accounting records are maintained in accordance with GAAP.
    • Effectively manage, motivate, and train assigned staff and provide regular status of work-in-progress responsibilities to the SVP Controller
    • Prepare monthly and quarterly account analysis package for SVP Controller. Supervise preparation of Quarterly/monthly reporting data.
    • Manage all aspects of Revenue accounting, including the Accounts Receivable sub-system close. This role will be responsible for the oversight of the portion of the advertising revenue accounting function that has been outsourced to The Madison Square Garden Company.
    • Manage all aspects of Oracle fixed asset sub-system, maintain all documentation and files, track capital accruals, reconcile monthly posting to General Ledger, manage the issuance of the monthly management capital report to ensure publication on a timely basis. This also includes the annual confirmation of asset listing with operations to confirm existence and potential impairment. Retire selected assets as directed.
    • Manage the portion of the accounts payable function that is performed at the Company, including review of proper approval and coding for all invoices.
    • Evaluate and identify areas of potential exposure and internal control weakness and evaluate and improve processes and work flows to improve completion times.
    • Create, implement and monitor compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Act as project lead in the design and implementation of all processes. 
    • Interact with the Company’s external auditors with respect to the Company’s financial statements and related analysis.
    • Ensure adherence to Company policies and procedures as they relate to GAAP, accounting policies, T&E, Vendors Qualification procedures & Capital Project requests.
    • Assist in updates and system conversions for general ledger and fixed asset modules, suggest enhancements, and confirm functionality of delivered products meet requested expectations.
    • Complete special projects in an accurate and timely manner, as assigned.


    Key Experiences/Achievements:

    • CPA License Required
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
    • Minimum 15 years of progressive accounting experience
    • Excellent developmental and motivational techniques
    • Strong analytical account analysis skills
    • Oracle (all modules) & TM1 skills a plus

    • Ability to interact with cross functional groups and executive management
    • Effective written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to effectively manage staff and assigned tasks of subordinates as well as own responsibilities

    • Ability to evaluate processes and recommend and implement more efficient practices and procedures

    Technical/Functional Competencies:

    • Must have shown the ability to consume large amounts of data/information and be able to extract and summarize relevant facts.
    • Must have shown the ability to identify accounting issues and the subsequent framing and documentation along with the related conclusions.
    • Must have shown the ability to work independently while effectively prioritizing multiple tasks
    • In-depth understanding of current GAAP accounting and finance issues to critically review financial results, account analysis, and direct certain financial activities.
    • Ability to work with executive management and staff in a professional manner and gather information necessary to complete assigned tasks
    • Project management: ability to keep projects on track
    • Must possess a strong, flexible work ethic that meets tight deadlines
    • Strong sense of integrity, responsibility and accountability
    • Ability to establish relationships with business partners including 3rd Party service providers and internal and external auditors
    • High PC aptitude and literacy, especially with Excel, Word (including TM1), and Oracle

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior experience working at a Big 4 accounting firm preferred.
    • Experience in entertainment or media industry a plus.
    • Experience working with SEC clients (if coming from public accounting) or at an SEC Registered Company (if coming from private)


    Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
