Responsibilities

Negotiate, draft and assist with administration of  license agreements: (i) with licensors from whom MSG is seeking to license intellectual property (e.g., music, photographs, videos, books, names, trademarks, logos, etc.) for use in company’s stage productions and related promotional materials and advertisements, web content for company’s transformed website and social media postings/uploads, as well as third party sponsors’ websites and social media sites,  in-venue displays and exhibits and other properties and (ii) with licensees to whom MSG has agreed to provide access to MSG-owned content such as photographs, videos and printed material from the company’s archive, use of company trademarks, logos and other similar exploitations. 

 

 

  • Work with MSG’s stakeholders to assess music and other IP-related clearance and use issues and, to the extent necessary, secure licenses (including music synchronization), for use in campaigns, sponsorship activations, videos, teasers, video, social media, websites, etc.
  • Negotiate and draft license agreements with licensors regarding company’s use of such licensor’s IP.
  • Negotiate and draft license agreements with licensees regarding such licensees’ use of company IP.
  • Secure licenses from Performing Rights Organizations for use of music in Company-run venues, Company websites, and for promotional appearances by the Rockettes.
  • Negotiate bulk licenses with photography/video libraries, stock footage houses and stock music libraries.
  • Draft and negotiate agreements for MSG creative services relating to work-made-for-hire and/or licensing
  • Generate and submit music cue sheets to PROs and unions.
  • Maintain company’s publishing entities.
  • Register company’s repertoire with PROs and other collecting societies.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree

5+ years of relevant experience including contract drafting and negotiating licensing and other agreements relating to intellectual property rights. Knowledge of the music industry a plus.

Exceptional organization skills with proven ability to manage projects and prioritize near and far-term goals in order to meet deadlines

Extensive contract negotiation and drafting skills

Ability to apply concepts across multiple disciplines

Ability to adapt in a dynamic corporate environment

Professional demeanor along with superior verbal and written communication skills

Experience with issues pertaining to rights of privacy, publicity and implied endorsements a plus

Advanced computer skills, both Microsoft Word and Excel

Education

Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
