Responsibilities

SVP Finance – Venue Operations serves as a strategic and financial partner to the EVP – Venue Operations and venue operations senior management team.  Responsible for management and oversight of all financial planning, accounting and reporting functions for The Madison Square Garden Company’s Venue Operations Division which includes the following 6 venues: Madison Square Garden, the Theater at Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, Beacon Theatre, Chicago Theatre and The Forum. This executive assists with establishing finance and business process and policy while analyzing and driving new initiatives for both the current venue portfolio and new potential venues. Scope of financial responsibility includes all concessions and merchandise operations, ticketing operations and all operating and capital expenses of the company’s venue portfolio.

 

  • Manage FP&A function for Venue Operations division - Annual Budget, Long-Term Plan, Forecasts and Outlooks.
  • Oversee the management of accounting, reporting and monthly financial close processes for Concessions and Merchandise businesses, Facility and Event Operations for six owned / operated venues.
  • Provide insightful financial analyses, meaningful and accurate forecasts, clear explanations of business results, and advice on the financial consequence of strategic decisions.
  • Represent the financial point of view in Executive discussions and provide senior finance leadership and counsel to Venue Operations management team.
  • Recommend benchmarks for measuring financial and operating performance.
  • Partner with management team to create annual divisional strategic plan.
  • Prepare and present analyses in support of new business initiatives.
  • Oversee maintenance of internal controls, including compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor an exceptional finance team. Advise and provide financial analyses in support of union contract negotiations.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years’ experience (with minimum of 5 years in senior management role) in finance and accounting, preferably in the sports, live entertainment, facility operations or hospitality industries.
  • BS in Accounting or Finance required with MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and extensive FP&A experience.
  • Strong track record of growth and achievements.
  • Resilient finance executive with sound business judgement; effective working in matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working alongside C-Suite Executives.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication, organizational and time management skills required.
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in a fluid, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Possess exceptional attention to detail and displays strong follow-up skills.
  • Experience working with all levels of management and supervising a large staff. 
  • Ability to prepare and deliver executive level financial analyses.
  • Demonstrates integrity, tact, diplomacy and a commitment to company values and principles.
  • Skilled at working collaboratively and in a team environment.
  • Strong problem solving, reasoning, motivational and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of Oracle and TM1 systems desired but not required.

Education

Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
