Responsibilities

SUMMARY: The Building Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising the daily activities of Madison Square Garden’s venues: the Arena, the Theater, and the Expo Center as determined by the Director of Building Operations. The position’s focus is on building maintenance, budget management, and event set-ups. This position involves the supervision of Union labor within all Building Operations Trades.

 

Building Operations Coordinator Madison Square Garden

 

The Building Operations Supervisor will perform routine building inspections. This position will be the lead operator for our CAFM system, assuring high efficiency in work order completion. This involves entering, updating, and closing service tickets for multiple departments, assigning tickets to individual union trades, and following through until completion. This position is responsible for all facets of project management (planning, budget, execution) for in-house maintenance, outside contractors, and large capital projects. Along with providing full support to all management in Building Operations, duties will also include being the liaison for internal MSG departments in regards to repair and maintenance within the Arena and Theater.

 

The Operations Supervisor will assist in managing Department R&M budgets. This position will work with the Director of Building Operations to forecast and manage annual budgets.

 

This position will oversee daily event needs, assist with event load-ins, and work events as needed during the week, and on weekends.

The scope of this position encompasses a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation with the transition of numerous daily events, multiple unions, work rules and jurisdictions.

MAIN DUTIES/FUNCTIONS: In order of importance, list the main duties and functions of this position with the anticipated approximate percentage of time devoted to each such function or duty.

  1. Responsible for supervising daily activities within the Arena, Theater, and Expo Center.
  2. Lead operator for CAFM system, monitor the status and completion of all work tickets, enter work tickets
  3. Track maintenance charged to Building Operations R&M budgets (Operating/Suites & Clubs) to assist with forecasting and budget management
  4. Communicate, coordinate, and directly oversee the execution of event requirements scheduled to be completed.
  5. Direct trades to complete building maintenance projects and new capital projects.
  6. Work closely with other departments to coordinate repairs and maintenance on building operations equipment including basketball courts, basketball backstops, hockey dasher boards, staging, crowd control equipment, etc
  7. Direct trades to complete event requirements for Arena/Theater events such as concert floor set-ups, as well as ancillary Sponsorship set-ups and activations
  8. Perform routine building inspections in the arena and theater.
  9. Main point of contact for Season Subscriptions and Suite Services to make repairs and improve the quality of the building to insure the highest client satisfaction and guest experience.
  10. Take the lead on Sponsorship building projects.
  11. Work closely with the Carpenters and Painters on daily maintenance and small projects.

 

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: Briefly describe the educational background, licenses, certifications, job-related experience, knowledge, skills or abilities necessary to perform the job and preferred relevant experience. Note, this information will be used to create the job posting.

 

Ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of project management experience, facility management experience, arena back of house environment experience, along with people management experience, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to work professionally as a team player in a fast paced deadline orientated environment. Prior Arena/Theatre or similar experience and experience in CBA work rules and scheduling procedures preferred. Must be able to manage union staff, outside contractors, and multi task in an extremely critical environment. Must be available to work weekends and holidays.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred. Educational requirements may differ from job to job based on the role.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of facility management experience with direct responsibility over building projects and maintenance.
  • Previous experience with CAFM systems
  • Ability to demonstrate success in managing multiple tasks while under tight deadlines and financial constraints.
  • Must have previous experience managing union workforce.
  • Ability to work days, overnights, weekends and holidays in addition to working the regular night shift.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to plan, analyze, and manage material and labor budgets.
  • Must be highly responsive to emergencies in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Possess exceptional attention to detail and strong follow-up skills necessary
  • Must have the ability to work independently when necessary, and use sound business judgment.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be detail-oriented, organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrate integrity, tact, diplomacy and a commitment to company values, and principles while ensuring the upmost consistency.
  • Experience in logistics in the live entertainment or sports environment or similar industry.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while managing multiple tasks.
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • High written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of union labor work rules union CBAs is required.
  • Experience in metrics and/or data reporting.

Education
