    The Director is responsible for all financial accounting aspects of MSGE (including Live, and Productions,) and Sports Properties.  Overall, this position leads the accounting team responsible for MSGE (including Live and Productions) and Sports Properties accounting and reporting including month end accruals, reconciliations, revenue and expense and balance sheet analyses, and monthly / quarterly reporting. This role is primarily responsible for the accounting operations of MSGE (and Sports Properties) including the following:


    • Preparation and recording of required journal entries.
    • Review and approval of invoices and other expenses for payment.
    • Management and facilitation of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes.
    • Monitoring of financial results to facilitate financial analysis.
    • Effective operation and monitoring of the Company’s Internal Control Over Financial Reporting with respect to MSG’s Teams.
    • Facilitation of the external audit process.
    • Analytically, this position will compare each division’s results to prior years and provide explanations regarding any applicable variances. Will be responsible for analyzing/providing commentary to be used for the 10K/10Qs applicable to the entertainment segment. Responsible for writing the monthly Controllers letter for the Entertainment Segment as well as providing the Sports Segment Controller with commentary on Sports Properties.
    • This position is also responsible for reviewing the financial statements of our consolidated investments in Tao and Boston Calling. Responsibilities include performing monthly or quarterly analytical review procedures and walk throughs to get comfortable with the financials of these two entities. Included in these reviews would be meetings to walk through their Balance Sheets and related account reconciliations.
    • Provides audit support including transaction backup, walkthroughs, and SOX processes as required for internal and external audit teams.
    • This position is involved in special projects including but not limited to system testing, and ad hoc information requests and analysis.
    • This position will require excellent written and communication skills, an expert understanding of accounting principles and the Company’s policies and procedures. The Director will be required to adhere to strict reporting deadlines which will require superior supervisory and organizational skills.
    • For Productions business, will review the appropriateness of any costs being considered for deferral as well as analyzing such deferred costs for recoverability.
    • Position needs to have the ability to analyze results – highlighting significant items recorded during the month/quarter.
    • Responsible for appropriate review and coding of invoices/journal entries affecting areas responsible for.
    • Analysis of balance sheet accounts for the Entertainment and Sports Properties divisions. Needs to ensure that account reconciliations are properly prepared and fully supported.
    • Establishes schedules for the completion and review of all periodic reporting requirements and ensures that these requirements are met.
    • Maintenance of internal controls, including compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes Oxley Act.
    • Responsible for developing process improvements—looking for this position to determine efficiencies with respect to divisional accounting and reporting.

    Technical/Functional Competencies

    • CPA required with working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
    • Expert analytical, accounting and financial skills are required.
    • Experience in monthly analysis reporting and monthly closes.
    • Expert level Excel skills, with experience in HCM, Oracle, ADI, TM1, Infor and Coupa applications strongly preferred.


    Key Experiences/Achievements

    • 8-10+ years of accounting experience within live entertainment or sports industries.
    • Bachelor Degree in Finance/Accounting required, with a preferred MBA, and required CPA.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • The individual in this position must be a self-starter, be organized, have a sense of urgency and a dedicated team player.


    Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
