    Responsibilities

    The Systems DevOps Engineer will be the primary engineer responsible for production engineering operations and development bridges on products, events and research initiatives within their assigned realm of influence at Obscura. This position will work across a wide range of teams to provide technical design and implementation based on pre-designed creative experiences. They will be the technical lead on matters such as media post-production pipeline, render development and operations, information systems architecture (all forms of compute), and software deployment / CI/CD architecture. This individual will interact on either a small team or independently, and thus will need to have a strong grasp of technical project management

     

    Specific Functions/Activities SUMMARY:

    •  The Systems DevOps Engineer will be the lead information systems architect and implementer in their areas of responsibility. Areas of responsibility include:
      • Render farm.
      • Media/Art pipeline development.
      • Datacenter design.
      • Information systems architecture.
      • DevOps tooling and builds.
    • In collaboration with project managers and software developers, the Systems DevOps Engineer will plan and implement the entirety of information systems architecture. This includes:
      • Technical project design.
      • Budget and cost analysis.
      • Resource forecasting.
    • This position will support creative functions of the business by designing technical systems which drive the vision of the project.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plans and aligns work by gathering and documenting information and by analyzing business needs, data and requirements so they can be turned into product or process specifications and recommendations. Analyzes data of greater complexity. Generates clear and easy to understand reports based on collected data. Acts with accountability and meets commitments.  Handles many tasks and decisions independently.
    • Demonstrates the technical / product/ or systems knowledge required to perform the job.
    • Is action oriented and takes the required action to drive projects forward with energy and commitment. Makes several decisions without prior approval of management.  May lead project teams.
    • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and is able to work effectively with a wide variety of people within and outside of the department. The Analyst treats others with respect.
    • Uses persuasion as needed to influence team members and management regarding facts and recommendations. The Senior Analyst often creates presentations and recommendations for use by senior management. Demonstrates strong professional impact and presence.
    • Is adaptable and is able to change their approach and manner to match the changing demands of the job and/or situation.
    • Encourages innovation by looking for ways to improve the way that basic job functions are performed and services are delivered.

    Qualifications

    • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/relevant degree or a minimum of 4 years acting as a Systems DevOps Engineer with relevant similar duties.
    • Strong technical analytical, interpersonal, influencing skills and written and verbal skills required.
    • Strong competency in designing information systems architectures from software development, hardware design and integration. Examples include, but are not limited to:
    • Post and generative production media pipelines.
    • AfterEffects, Nuke, Blender, C4D, Deadline, etc
    • Distributed servers.
      • GlusterFS, Apache Spark, IoT, etc
    • Microservices and virtualization platforms.
    • Docker, QEMU, VMWare, etc.
    • Software development methodologies.
    • SCRUM, Kanban, Agile, etc
    • Software development.
    • Python, Javascript, C#, GIT, etc
    • Network infrastructure.
    • Junos, Mellanox, Cisco, etc
    • Broadcast and show control systems.
    • Time sequencing, framelock, etc
    • Datacenter design.
    • Cooling standards, Open compute project, etc.
    • Empathetic working philosophy with an attunement to the needs of the individuals across the organization.
    • A strong desire to document and build incredible engineering user experience for future teams working on projects.
    • Familiarity with production and or creative studio environments is a plus.
    • Self-starter attitude is critical as this position interacts with all levels of the organizational user base.
    • Excellent writing and quantitative analytical skills
    • Familiarity with Word, PowerPoint and Excel
