    Specific Functions/Activities Summary

    The Data Platform Engineer will report to the Director, Data Architecture and will be responsible for the design, build, and maintenance of Madison Square Garden Company’s data platforms used for both analytics and for the integration of business and customer-facing applications. The Data Platform Engineer will have the opportunity to work with data that spans all of MSG’s business units and includes metrics for the Knicks, Rangers, Rockettes, and concerts held in MSG venues. The Data Platform Engineer will work closely with both Business and Technical stakeholders to develop solutions that establish MSG as a leader in the use of data to drive outstanding business performance by making actionable insights available when and where they add the most value.

     

     MAIN DUTIES/FUNCTIONS: 

    • Design, build, maintain, and optimize components of MSG enterprise data architecture required to meet the analytics and production data needs of the business
    • Partner with business stakeholders and Business Intelligence (BI) developers to define data requirements and ensure accuracy of all metrics and master data
    • Develop and implement dimensional data models to optimally deliver on the needs of business stakeholders
    • Design, develop, and maintain ETL required to populate dimensional data models
    • Establish clean, robust master data for use across business functions
    • Evaluate and inform selection of technologies to build and optimize MSG's data solutions
    • Triage and resolve issues across all areas of MSG's data solutions

    Qualifications

    • 3 + years data platform development experience
    •  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
    • Expertise in dimensional data modeling, ETL, SQL coding plus working knowledge of Big Data solutions and noSQL databases
    • Expertise with scripting languages (Python, Perl, Shell)
    • Experience with MPP data warehouse platforms (Redshift, Netezza, Teradata, Greenplum)
    • Experience working in cloud-based environment (AWS, Azure, Google)
    • Experience working with ETL tools & IDE (SAP Data Services, Informatica, Talend, Pentaho, Eclipse, Datagrip)
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
    • Strong project management and coordination skills
    • Excellent communication skills with ability to engage with business stakeholders to effectively translate business requirements into technical solutions
    • High level of enthusiasm for building innovative data solutions

    Education

    Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
