    Specific Functions/Activities Summary

    The Manager will play a vital role in the People Management Department and support Obscura Digital. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge of the Human Resources function. The Manager will provide key services in the area of Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, Benefits and assist with the implementation of People Management programs and initiatives. The candidate, located in San Francisco, CA, will utilize the support of the larger corporate HR team in New York, and rely on functional leaders of People Practices (Benefits, Compensation, Learning & Development and Talent Acquisition) to develop and execute Human Resources strategies and goals that align with the needs of the business.  The Manager will assist the VP of People Practices based in New York, in the day to day coaching and counseling of department heads/managers, facilitate the progressive discipline process and ensure compliance of company policies, collective bargaining agreements and legal employment regulations

    • Act as an advocate for all employees.  Obtain detailed information regarding any issues and inform appropriate management of the proper procedure.
    • Ensure fair and consistent application of company policy and procedures, while promoting a positive employee morale. This includes performance management, interpersonal issues, learning techniques, the issuance of corrective actions, the development of performance improvement plans, conflict resolution and general application of company policy.
    • In conjunction with Learning & Development, assist with the roll-out of customized programs to meet the needs of the functional unit.
    • Manage all investigations such as, but not limited to, EEO, and Wage & Hour
    • Monitor and track employee relations issues in CRM
    • Responsible for checking the Marquee directory on a routine basis, to ensure title and reporting structure reflect real life structure and matches org charts and open positions in ICIMS.
    • Work with Director Compliance to evaluate and ensure California compliance with the overall People Practices discipline as it relates to EEO guidelines, company policy, employment background investigations, and drug testing.
    • Review and track employee actions e.g., hires, transfers, receipt of disciplinary notices, etc. Prepare necessary paperwork, obtain approvals, and ensure timely submission to HRMS.
    • Assist in the setup of Day 1, which includes maintaining documentation to keep folders up to date and helping Day 1 lead with meeting logistics
    • Assist in the resignation process which includes sending initial resignation email, processing the term profile, confirming vacation payout with manager, scheduling exit interview and coordinating off boarding efforts.
    • Create, review and update employee and administrative policies under the supervision of the VP of People Practices


    • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Human Resources management or related field of work
    • Minimum of 60 advanced educational credits required
    • Experience working in a human resources department, knowledge of human resources processes and best practices
    • Excellent verbal & written communication, organizational and time management skills required
    • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline-oriented environment
    • Possess exceptional attention to detail and strong follow-up skills necessary
    • Demonstrates integrity, tact, diplomacy and a commitment to company values, and HR principles while ensuring the upmost consistency
    • SHRM or PHR certification is desirable
    • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Human Resource system and ICIMS System a plus
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, frequent overtime and have the ability to travel within NYC


    Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
