    Role Summary

    The Manager Digital – Team Content will support the Rangers Digital Marketing team with a specific focus on hockey coverage and will serve as the primary writer and editor for player/prospect/alumni and other team news throughout the year.

    This position reports to the Rangers Director, Digital and responsibilities include executing the overall digital strategy in partnership with the Marketing Strategy lead; embedded with the hockey team throughout the year; maintaining and updating the editorial calendars surrounding team coverage; providing weekly/monthly calendars for team’s review in advance of publishing; creating compelling content opportunities/stories; working with the PR team on key team news; and working with traveling videographer and creative team to build out how coverage will live across all mediums. The full brand digital eco-system includes: Web, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and YouTube.

    At the core, this candidate is a hockey expert, writer and content creator, has a deep passion for storytelling with a sports lens, always looking for what is new in the marketplace and how we can continue to push ourselves to be best in class. Knowledge of the hockey landscape and the Rangers is a key requirement.

    Specific Functions/Activities Summary

    • Team Coverage -This person will be the primary written editorial lead on all things relating to the Rangers team (players, prospects, alumni). They will be on-site for all games, practices, morning skates, team and league events, etc. to provide both regular content (articles, interviews, features, etc.) and real-time social coverage (regular and behind the scenes photos/videos, game/team updates on social, etc.). Publishing includes an always-on presence during all Rangers games & events in addition to off days.
    • Content Development - Works with Digital Lead on content creation and developing storylines/written features surrounding the team that relate to both on and off ice, community relations, fan development and additionally content that also be packaged for partnerships. This role will partner with team videographers in developing storylines and content created for both daily and season long storylines.
    • Industry Expertise - Identifies industry best practices and innovations with an ability to translate them to actionable learnings and opportunities. The ideal candidate is well-versed in editorial coverage, social media, and the latest trends.
    • Digital Reporting & Actionable Insights - This person will also be responsible for measuring how editorial content performs on web and social and utilize analytics and insights to inform content and posting strategies.
    • Brand Stewardship - Significant knowledge of the Rangers and Hockey is a requirement. Understanding of Rangers fans and NY sports fans and the ability to develop content in support of fan insights are critical. 3-5 years working in the sports industry is ideal.

    Qualifications

    • Significant knowledge of the Rangers team and NHL landscape, including the players, organization, performance and stats, industry trends, hockey culture and fan engagement.
    • Proven editorial and writing experience with the ability to conduct interviews.
    • Experience working in social media and digital content. Fully proficient in social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and emerging platforms. Experience posting to web preferred.
    • Ability to navigate and prioritize in very sensitive, high paced environments – including collaborating with various departments to push work forward
    • Proficient in MS Office, Digital/Social software.

    Education

    Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
